Dear ISEH members and stakeholders,

As you are undoubtedly aware, COVID-19 has been making headlines around the world for the past
few weeks and months. On behalf of the ISEH Board of Directors, I would like to extend our heartfelt wishes that you, your family and friends are well. 

Here, at ISEH, we are continuing to monitor the situation closely to determine whether any changes will occur for the ISEH 49th Annual Scientific Meeting in New York City on 20-23 August, 2020. The health and safety of our event attendees and partners is of the utmost importance and we will be following any recommended guidelines and best practices laid out by relevant health and safety entities as August approaches.

In response to the uncertainty we face due to the COVID-19 outbreaks around the world, ISEH will be extending our Call for Abstracts deadline to May 8 (previously April 13). Please note, submission of an abstract is FREE to ISEH members. We hope that you will continue to submit abstracts in preparation for the meeting. We will also be evaluating other meeting deadlines, such as our early-registration pricing (June 18) to see if changes are warranted based on the situation at that time. Please continue to check the ISEH 2020 website for updates and information.

If your institution or government establishes a travel policy that would prevent you from attending/registering for the ISEH meeting in August, please email that information to info@iseh.org. ISEH is closely tracking our attendance AND those who are unable to attend for reasons such as institutional or governmental travel bans.

Now more than ever, ISEH needs your support. Please join or renew your ISEH membership to demonstrate your support for the organization. Your membership provides you access to ISEH webinars, our membership directory, discussion forums and more that can keep you connected to your colleagues around the world during this time of limited travel.

ISEH 2023 Annual Scientific Meeting – Highlights from the New Investigators Committee

The 52nd ISEH Annual Scientific Meeting took place at the New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge from 17-20 August 2023. Our Annual Scientific Meeting brought together more than 540 scientists and ISEH members from 25 different countries from around the world. This meeting in New York City was planned for 2020, but it had to be postponed due to the COVID-19 emergency. After three years, we finally got to roll our suitcases down the streets of NYC, which is a fantastic playground for networking. We were extremely happy and grateful to bring the community together again! “The lab is moving!” I must confess, when I heard these words from my mentor about a year and a half ago, my heart dropped. Lab relocation experiences are some of the worst horror stories that you hear from fellow researchers: precious samples lost, mouse colonies never recovered, months spent re-establishing protocols. Moreover, it also meant I would have to leave San Francisco, a beautiful city that I loved to live in, and where I found many friends. Being a scientist often means not having much choice of geographic location of your work. The choice of a particular subject or even broad field usually requires a move to a new city, or even a new country. Moving with the lab means making this choice again – do I leave my project and all the progress behind, or do I accept the delay in my research and go ahead.
