Announcing the Next Editor-in-Chief of Experimental Hematology: Toshio Suda

The ISEH has appointed Toshio Suda, Professor at the Cancer Science Institute at the National University of Singapore and Director of the International Research Center for Medical Sciences Kumamoto University, as the next editor-in-chief of Experimental Hematology, the society journal. Professor Suda will succeed Connie Eaves, Professor at the University of British Columbia, CA, who has led the journal since 2017.

“We are thrilled that Toshio will be the next Experimental Hematology Editor-in-Chief.” said ISEH president Andrew Elefanty. “He follows on from Connie’s tenure which has seen a steady rise in journal impact as the society and journal reputation grow. Toshio’s exemplary reputation in the field and extensive background in HSC biology and other editorial roles makes him an excellent choice for this position.”

For nearly 50 years, Experimental Hematology has published landmark papers in the field and has stood as a society run journal for the benefit of its members. Its focus has been on publishing original scientific articles that stand the test of time as well as insightful reviews on topics of high relevance to the community.

“Connie, complemented by a diverse and dedicated team of associate editors, has initiated a fantastic upward trajectory for the journal by providing high quality and original research across a wide spectrum of the field” said Kristina Kirschner, Chair of the ISEH Publications Committee. “We now are confident that Toshio will take this positive momentum to the next level and expand the reach of the journal even further.”

Professor Suda, a former President of ISEH, has a long and prolific history in the field of experimental hematology and he has been a stalwart supporter of the society. His early work on clonal assays and single cell biology were truly pioneering and his more recent cataloguing of hematopoietic stem cell niche biology has been a driver of field-wide discussions and progress. He said “ Since I have been scientifically supported by the International Society of Experimental Hematology, I would like to contribute to the Journal as an Editor-in-Chief.”

Dr. Suda’s vision for Experimental Hematology’s future includes to “collect more submitted papers in Experimental Hematology. To do so, more rapid review and rapid publication will be the first priority.” In addition, Dr Suda states that he “ will create a more unique Journal. Although the big data will be required to confirm the conclusion, we will evaluate more unique and promising data in the paper, even if they are small data.” Lastly, Dr Suda added that “the field of Experimental Hematology should not be restricted, but should expand to translational studies and related basic categories, such as immunology and molecular genetics.”

The society is delighted that Professor Suda has accepted the role of incoming Editor-in-Chief of Experimental Hematology and enthusiastically supports his plans for the coming years of the journal and its continued positive trajectory.

About Experimental Hematology

Experimental Hematology™ publishes original research reports (regular and fast-track submissions), reviews, letters to the editor, and abstracts of the annual meeting of ISEH - International Society for Experimental Hematology. It welcomes manuscripts describing basic in vitro and in vivo research centered on normal and malignant hematopoiesis as well as non-malignant hematologic diseases. Submissions focused on non-hematopoietic stem cells (e.g. mesenchymal stem cells, embryonic stem cells and induced pluripotent stems) with potential relevance to hematopoiesis are also welcome, as are studies involving experimental or early phase clinical cell transplantation. Studies employing genomic and systems biology approaches to the study of normal and malignant hematopoiesis are strongly encouraged, as are those employing model organisms.
